June 6 Sagschen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
R'slide shows the great addition made last fall by way of plastering. Should have a photo of this. Two large midden heaps near entrance. Willows show considerable use which may be just recent or may have been going on all winter but was hidden from view on previous visits. Glenn reports seeing the beaver here in broad daylight last weeks. Water level 2" higher than it was on April 11, tho' there's a bad break or leak in the dam. A great deal of willow-use here as Glenn said, & moreso than was the case last spring.
Dam just below bridge one in good shape. And, warbler feeding at water's edge. Two small swifts, probably Vaux, circling high over pond. Next dam on downstream also intact. L. rockslide seems to be less active than upper. Evidence of willow use not as extensive. Water v. high. Grass close-cut at water's edge, deer? Mayfly colony. R. breasted nut-hatch calling from willows before moving to l'pole. Song sparrows singing in willows overhanging stream. Pewees. Some otter-like tracks in streamside
