J.G.Hall 1953 90 June 6 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. are still here + are trimmed to some extent. A few willows are in tiny leaf, most of them not in leaf. These beavers are going at least 1/4 mi for these aspen unless another colony has been started since last fall. A little evidence of willow cutting on opposite bank. Some v. old asp. stumps 20' down from the fresh asp. cuttings + on same side. Marmot ran across road. Robin, song sparrow singing. Junco around; beautiful 7 and warbler flew amongst pines across creek. A few fresh beaver twigs lying in shallows just opp. the cut-off road E. of the "roadside camp". At least some are aspen. Looks like a dam is going up just below this pool tho' I can't get near enough for a good look. Yellow warbler 7 phil- elolated in willows over creek. 75 yards farther down a 2" alder recently cut 2 1/2' above the ground (cut when snow was on ground) but has hardly been touched. Large "black & white" woodpecker flew up into pines from waters edge. Note it to Hairy's. Reached N. Rockslide colony at 3:30. House
