J.G. Hall 1953 87 Feb 23 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. melt hole over the house. One 5' asp cut 30 yds from pond on N-slope. 8-10 one to 2-inches cut on rock- slide. One asp has branches trimmed of bark but not cut, possibly work of porley or snowshoe. This is 50 yds from the pond. April 11 Left main camp for upper colony 8:05 AM. Sky clear except for a few clouds in West. 20° F, slight breeze, about 1 foot of snow left on ground. On way up saw chickadees, sapsuckers (red-naped?) heard flicker + jays. At least 3 coyote tracks above big meadow. Occasional hare + rabbit tracks also some squirrel or chipmunk. Heard but didn't see a redtail screeaming. Upper colony 9:45, water very high; thin veneer of ice on pond. Water even on N side of lodge. Marking chart: D x ^ 10:05 lone g.c. beinglet foraging in w. firs. Re- <1 I cent alder use evident. 1 cut Lots of cuttings on bot- 2 18(only) tom, just upstream 3 11 from old scar bark. 4 1 A large aspen, felled 5 \ 12
