J.G. Hall 1953 86 Feb 22 Sagemen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. A lot of work but can't decide if it is new since last November's work. Top of house bare of snow. Coyote tracks go along parallel to shore with- in 10' of house without detouring to inves- tigate. Ice about 4" thick outside the lodge + many aspen sticks which look peeled are lying on bottom of pond out- side entrance. An odd snow-cave formed under the deadfall next to house. It's 2' wide, 6' deep, doesn't seem to connect to house. Another "bridge slide near first one. No new work evident below flash tree nor above the big deadfall near photo tree. Most of it on islands just above + below main dam + always near water. No work on the banks. Left at 10:30 for Bob's grouse area farther upstream. 1 PM at Bob's sta. #57 many porkey droppings + snow stained a red-orange lag (?) urine. Feb 23 Upper Rockslide Colony, 9 AM. Pond covered over c 2" of snow which fell last night. No signs of activity. Winter worn flitting around. A
