Just got settled when a beaver in W tribe
slapped 3 times in alarm. 6:28 heard
chewing sounds from same place & 6:29
one swam down toward me but I lost
him in willows. 6:32 more chewing in
stream area right opposite me but
willows hid view of beaver. 6:34, one
floated & then swam slowly upstream
from corner. 6:40 one coming down the
stream with some cuttings, disappeared
into a cove near small pine & was heard
chewing vigorously. 6:45 it swam down
farther & went ashore again to cut more
willow. Recognized it as scartail thru
drinos. 6:53 cut switch & came down
to cove where it dove. Orange incisors
easily seen. 6:55 large one swim-
ming back & forth just above "Jin's
dam". Scartail was still chewing away
nearly. 6:58 one again seen in pond
above Jin's dam, repeatedly diving.
7:00 Scartail landed, spent 5 minutes
scratching and combing, mostly at
dorsal root of tail but also at gen-
ital opening and cheeks. Then rested,
sitting solidly on tail for several min-
utes like a fat old man. 7:16 it
