Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
sept 3 place, again eyeing Betty suspiciously and finally began swimming slowly up to dam at which camera was aimed. When beaver was just crossing dam I pushed the switch and the shutter clicked but no flash! Beaver instantly stopped tail & dived into a bank burrow about 5' upstream from the dam. Left 7:55.
sept 4 Arrived in twin jones at 5:30 PM after resetting camera as it was last night. Weather clear but windy.
6:20 medium size beaver emerged from cave burrow where the one last night had gone after I fired the shutter. It headed toward the small dam immediately downstream but instead of crossing it, it swam suspiciously back and forth, perhaps wary of the camera & tripod.
6:23 it turned around, dove, swam under water to vicinity of the channel dam where I lost it. It probably entered a burrow there.
6:30 sunset. 6:40 a very large beaver appeared floating by mud
