J.G.Hall 1952 73 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi.NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Sept 3 length 13"-14". They made their way down stream alternately swim- ming and exploring under roots and logs by the stream side. The stream definitely appeared to be their main avenue of approach, yet they did not restrict them-selves to it. One minke swam to the N dam while the other 3 were near a root up from S dam. This one then swam back across to the other 3, using a vigorous dug-paddle. They made sparrow-like calls often and went hurrying & scurrying up over the remains of S dam, pay- ing absolutely no attention to me as far as I could tell. I was about 15' away from them most of the time. 6:30 PM arrived with camera and had it set up for remote control photo of beaver by 7:28. I sat in twin pines with a switch. Betty sitting on bank above mud shelf. By 7:28 a big one was seen floating at mud shelf, eyeing Betty. After several sec- onds it dove silently. 7:50 some ani- mal, apparently, floating in same
