J.G. Hall 1952 69 Aug 24 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. seat. Air clear but windy. 6:10 a handsome long-tailed weasel crossed the pond from the house to S side via the logs. 30 seconds later a chickaree started out on logs to cross same way but turned back after going a foot or so. 6:20 fish jumping. 6:55 a large hawk (goshawk?) flew S just W of pond. Sunset 6:58. 7:18 a beaver appeared in floating debris near the house, raising his head up through the debris to dive toward house. 7:28 a small animal, probably a water shrew, zipped along the S edge of the house and into a hole in side of house. I didn't get a good look at it. 7:30 medium size beaver surfaced at willow clump just above dam, cut switch & dove - it into house. 7:48 a kit appeared at the same spot as the other one had, cut 3 switches & dove into the house. It seems to swim under water more than the adults. 7:48 small commotions and chitterings by a log float (water shrews?). 8:10 kit reappeared at willows, swam to log at base of seat tree,
