Aug 17 The tributary fork back to main stream where he lives. 8:18 a com- motion at end of the deadfall, then one swims from there to the house and dials. I left at 8:19. Aug 18 Sheepherders camp in the meadow below Needham's cabin to the lower rockslide colony, started 10:15 AM. 10:30 scared doe and 2 fawns from heavy stream- side willow thicket. Doe first plunged into the water, then followed fawns up the S bank into pines. Reached upper rockslide colony by 10:50. Did not see the two 8-inchers by the house. Arrived at lower colony 11:15. Entrance to house as well as canal W of house muddy as if there'd been some recent daytime activity. I surveyed till 2:45 PM. I noticed scats lying on bottom of pond in Aug 24. several places. Upper colony 1:25 PM The tree I dislodged Aug. 13 has been sectioned in several places and the top part has been carried away. 4 or 5 new aspen logs near house may have come from this.
