J.G. Hall 1952 62 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 17 and takes cuttings to water's edge but is out of sight. Hear cutting noises. 7:09, swims up channel be- tween the 2 islands (gravel + snag) & stands high up on hind legs to grasp willows overhanging the stream, cuts some sprouts in shallow to eat. Violent ripples at twin pines but no beaver. 7:12 The large beaver finishes eating, goes farther up channel, grubs around at the shore, leans up to cut another switch & swims with it back to original feed- ing site. 7:15 he goes back to W. fork & his willow & pauses at corner of snag isl., then continues up stream at 7:15, crosses dam, crosses into main pond. At house he goes ashore but pauses suspiciously 5 feet from the water before going far- ther ashore. 7:18 another beaver at 1st might cove, "whacks" water & dives for no apparent reason (scent of dishermen?). Meanwhile the other beaver returns to shore & cutting & dives with it. 7:20 a beaver seen goin down pond, and goes over the from twin pines
