J.G. Hall 1952 60 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., California Aug 14 to blasted dam at 8:09, turns around to a point just W of house where he goes ashore, cuts switch & returns to eat it in shallows at end of dam deadfall. 8:14 [illegible] appears from house & tries to take whole cutting from scar-tail, but failing in this, cuts some of it off & dives with prize back into house. Meanwhile a beaver is swimming up N channel. Commotion in N fork, then cutting on channel island (at least 4 beavers accounted for? 3 adults visible or audible & 1 hit in house). 8:18 one swims up N channel then another joins it both from chan- nel dam. Scar-tail still in situ & hit in house, this definitely makes at least 4. I left at 8:20. Just as was the case yesterday, activity seems to begin in earn- est just when it gets too dark to see. Activity before dark seems lacka- disciplined and random. Aug 16 Upper colony 10:15 AM. Tree 2 dislodged on Aug. 13 has been trimmed in sev- eral places and severed in one spot 10' from top.
