Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 14 a med. size beaver approached crossing swam to S shore, onto shore where it cut a switch. It took this all the way back over the crossing with it. 7:08 beaver cutting on snag island, then went up to burrow where I lost him. 7:12 commotion on snag isl. shore. 7:13 two beavers seen to be working in vicinity of snag island. 7:14 one swims out to 1st night cove, then back out to dive near turn bur- row. 7:38 One goes up N fork, over N pole dam & dives into N banks burrow. 7:40 goes over crossing, up to spit where it dives into house. 7:52, one in N fork goes to snag island & dives. 7:54 re- appears, floats, goes up to 1st night cove, crossing, spit, back to bridge cove where it goes ashore to cut & eat in typical squatting position in shal- low. 7:55 another one seen working at edge of spit. 7:58 cutting beard on snag island. 8:02 a beaver swims under- water up to blasted dam where it is seen 3 min. later cutting a spring which it takes into the house. Bridge cove animal (now seen to be scar- tail) gets back on land, then goes up
