J.G. H211 1952 58 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 14 swam very slowly up to house, floated down to spit cove, looked as if it would do some cutting but swam back out to spit and dove. 6:44 medium size beaver in N. channel swam around island then back to path and finally down- stream to corner between crossing & the channel dam where he sat in shal- a small one lows eating. 6:48 went up channel again to NE shore to cut more willow. 6:49 went up channel apparently with- out cutting any more. 6:55 a beaver (same one?) in channel, went down to path, then down to shore to cut a switch which it carried to channel dam to eat in shallows. 6:58 it finished, swam across to bridge cove but dove & disappeared just before reaching it. Ripples at little red probably due to cut- ting by this beaver. Sun set 7:00 PM & a small one arrives at bridge cove where it stopped to feed in place. 7:02 willow it cut one, on land & took it to shallows to eat. 7:05 beaver seen going up "snag cove" of N fork. Went ashore to cut, returned to stream & swam to mud shelf where it cruised back & forth. Meanwhile,
