Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 13 7:25 "diving" beaver now reappears from gravel island & large cutting which he took over crossing, into n. channel & apparently dove into burrow with it. 7:28 one appeared in fork, almost crossed, but dove and at 7:30 was eating willow just N of crossing but had only his head & neck above surface (unusual posture). 7:35, it dove & probably the same one swam down fork, then up al- most to dam floated for a few seconds, moved down to mud shelf & dove. 7:45 one animal seen just N of crossing, feed- ing on cutting left by "diver". 7:49 an- other seen just above mud shelf, swim upstream, diving under a small stick after trying feebly to push it aside with his nose. Beaver still at crossing which crosses into main pond at 7:52, enters channel & is lost. 7:52 one got underwater from house upstream. 7:55 one seen in channel goes to path where it sits briefly in shallow but goes back & dives in channel. I left 7:57, returned 8:12 during which commotion one beaver fed in a S cove while another dove near this cove as I was climbing back up. 8:15 an-
