Aug 13 burrow. Lost sight of it upchannel.
Commotion a small dam near crossing. 6:45
yearling moved from cove to lower dam,
back to spit + from there to house under
water, emerged by house cut willow-
medium size
+ dove into house. 6:50 one sighted swim-
ing under water from spit to N chan-
el. Emerged at channel path, cut & fed
on a willow in shallows. 6:54 yearling
seen by house, swam down, then back to
island, finally cut willow at S. dam.
Meanwhile med. size beaver had swum past
it & over to one of the 5 coves + come ashore
to cut willows 20' from shore. This beaver is
"scar-tail". At 7:00 it took cutting to cove
swam + dove with it at the spit. 7:13 a
medium-size beaver seen at grassy bank
of the north fork, swimming down a-
round bend with dead sticks. 7:16 up
to 1st night cove to cut & eat in shallows.
7:18 ripples by burrow, 7:20 a beaver
crossed over at crossing, dove near
spit to reappear at the crossing
and dove to appear at spit, then dove to
appear at gravel island. 7:23 first
beaver (at 1st night cove) swims down fork
& disappears. Now both are lost to view.
