Aug 12 Sagehen Creek, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif.
Aug 11 11:30 Scared the q from nest again. Last egg hatched and 3 yng in nest.
Aug 13 Kiln Meadow 10 AM. Picket pins very fat, mistook them for young marmots.
Upper Colony 10:55. Many 1 1/2" fingerlings in quiet, silt-covered shallows. 1:50, 8-9" rb swam under "scum" near house where J. Flittner saw one before. 5 min later 7" brookie swam down & under scum. 5" brook-ies here & there. Some new looking aspen
stubbles, stored near entrance to house on bottom. A 9 inch aspen just recently cut worked on (see Aug 7 "6-incher"??) has been cut through but lodged. I dislodged it with much difficulty and will now see if the beaver will use it. Surveyed in some more details till 4:30, then left.
Lower Rockslide colony 6:25 PM. In obs. tree #1. 6:30 med size beaver appeared at crossing, swam up entire pond under-water & I lost sight of him. 6:32 yearling swam from crossing to small cove opposite, floated & dove. 6:35 some commotion (cutting near "little red"; maybe the year-ling. 6:40 after "upwelling", surface of N channel broken by a beaver which probably had emerged from a hole
