J. G. Hall 1952 53 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Aug 9 a bird in alders rufous buff Probably(?) ? black-headed grosbeake. B. Hoffmann has re-cently seen them (?'s only). 6:55 pewees active, one went to nest but I couldn't see what it did. 7:03 two mt. chickadees and another bird (vireo or warbler) lit in my tree. Chickadees came v. close, perching 2' from my head. The other bird not so close, gave 'chip' or 'teip' note. yel-low head fading into gray belly. Upper part of head somewhat darker but not black. Upper parts dark brown although I got poor view of them. No eye markings. ? pileolated warbler possibly. 7:11 slim olive green-yellow bird (? tanager?) lit in aspen. 2 prominent wing-bars. No beaver ac-tivity. Moon still high in sky (45°) when I left at 7:16. 100 yards downstream from the little rockslide opposite our camp, Aug 11 11:30 AM. Scared a thrush off her nest in an 8' white fir. Nest 4 1/2 feet above ground and contained 2 young and a blue-green egg.
