J.G. Hall 1952 52 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 7. and really trampled & chewed the place. a partly girdled tree above mainlodge has been felled. This is area where there were new workings several days ago; site appears the same otherwise. a 6" tree very freshly girdled near flash tree. Surveyed till 4 PM with Jim. At 6:05 PM we both took up stations, Jim in seat, I in flash tree. No activity noted except for a chick- earoe crossing the pond on fallen logs. Aug 8 at 6:43. Both left 8:15 PM. Surveyed rest of vicinity of colony for most of rest of day. Jim & I switched obser-vation posts for this evening. Jim in flash tree, I in seat at 6:70 PM. 6:16 chickaree with l'pole cone in mouth, crossed pond from N to S. 6:58 a chickaree crossed N corner of pond on log, paused to drink and continued along N shore. 7:44 water shrew ran rapidly along shore from N corner of pond toward house. Halfway there it entered shallow water, swam rapidly near shore, crawled ashore & ducked into crevice in house. Fish jumping but no beavers. Left 8:30. Aug 9 In seat 6:08 AM. Pewees calling. 6:50 saw
