J.G.Hall 1952 51 Sagehen Creek, 3mi.NW Hubart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Aug 5 at 7:56 a beaver came out from w end of N channel, circled around to S side of the island where it went ashore & fed on willows until 8:12 a small beaver, smallest seen all evening emerged from N bank burrow, rested a few seconds & only his head showing from under cover of the tall grass that overhangs shore, then swam up to the small dam cros- sing over to main pond via it rather than try the usual "xing". He then swam up to N end of dam, & brake down to a cove on the S shore, finally returning again to N channel. 8:17 one goes up N channel, dives toward bank & not to pass under ob- struction. 8:18 beaver seen swimming up N channel & around obstruction; lost him. 8:26 beaver swims down N channel, then over into main pond. Left 8:30. Weather calm, clear at first, clouding over by time. Aug 7 we left. Upper colony 12 noon & ginallen. Sheep have been through here this AM
