Sagehen Creek, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
Aug 5 and swam back downstream to the "little red" pine, turns around & swims back up again, to cave nearest the abs. tree where it got out. Meanwhile another beaver was noticed sitting in water at the small dam above the "xing". Beaver at cave was now feeding on willow (7:46) first while squatting in water, then on land. After 2 minutes he swam upstream to S end of blasted dam where he cut & ate some willow, then cut more willow, diving it into house at 7:53.
At 7:46 one swam up N channel & dove & some vege. in his mouth, at 7:48 another repeated the performance but w/o food. 7:50 one appears at path to N shore in channel, swims up & dives where the other 2 did. In next 5 min., 4 others repeat the act. They may be diving to get under an kind of brushfall obstruction blocking the channel or else to enter a burrow on the N shore or both.
