J. G. Hall 1952 48 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Aug 4 fork is a bigger dam than any of the others & just above it is what looks like a sunmerged entrance to a bank burrow, but entrance is on bottom of pond, not in the bank itself. Left 4 PM. Aug 5 6:40 PM J. Allen in original observation tree & I was in a tree on "gravel patch" island; this way we could cover entire area. Following account is a composite of both our notes. 6:53 beaver appeared from cove on N side of fork, swam 10' upstream, climbed out on the bank to cut a small willow switch, took it farther up under water & disappeared into bank burrow (?) at 6:54. System of bank burrows must be extensive. 6:58 a rather small beaver appeared from the "burrow" where the last one was entering + leaving 1st night, appeared, came ashore, cut willow & took it with him into burrow where the 1st beaver had disappeared. 7:13 This beaver (or one of the same size) emerged from this burrow & crossed over to main pond.
