Sagehen Creek 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
Aug 3 7:45 one swam down & up, entered cove above mine, crawled out on land, sat willow switch & returned to squat in shallows to eat.

Other one way down fork still squatting in shallow water but gone by 7:50. The second one left by 7:55. 8:05 one in cove combing or scratching - left hind foot for about a minute, then out to feed, left at 8:07, next seen [illegible] underwater on channel N of isle.
8:09 one floating near house then swam down below spit & dove. It or another appeared from chan- nel, swam up & dove below spit.
One floating by house, swam toward S shore & was lost till it thrashed in willows (0' [illegible] shore 8:13 it reappeared at same spot & switch, swam & it to house & dove; this was a big beaver. As Betty arrived at 8:15 a smaller one left island & dove quickly. Several seconds later I just missed seeing one go over the road xing "gap" to N fork.
