J.G.Hall 1952 43 Sagehen Creek, 3mi.NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Aug 2 Lower Rockslide colony 6:40 PM. Clean + calm. A couple of aspen sections & leaves still on visible lying on bottom be- tween ends of blasted dam; they may have floated down from above.(Town- sent's solitaire on "garbage road" or way down to camp). A 6" dead pine has fallen across the pond just below the ends of the blasted dam, from N shore. 7:02 PM med. size beaver appeared at lower dam, swam leisurely up, dove opposite house at 7:05. AT 7:10 same(?)animal appeared at shore of little island opp. house, went ashore, cut v. small willow twig which it brought back to eat while squatting in water. Then swam a couple of feet towards house & dove (7:13). 7:19-7:30 fed on willow sprigs in a little cove on S. side, then swam up to the "spit" & dove. 7:36 beaver-caused ripples on fork W of blasted dam. 7:42 beaver seen swimming downstream underwater from spit to cove opposite me. Just before it surfaced it stirred a cloud of mud up from bottom &as it came up its forepaws were clenched
