J.G.Hall 1952 40 July 24 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. feet. Not any signs or sounds of beaver July 25 8:10 AM. Started around to look for new cuttings. A 10' dam just below main one shows evidence of recent work with leaved aspen + alder sticks worked into it. Canothus covered with black caterpillars eating the leaves. Crossed over to N shore at "little swamp" which is also used by deer. Another small dam on N side below main one is in good condn. but doesn't show evidence of recent work. 15' from shore just above this dam a 2" aspen has been recently cut & the trunk removed. a number of other aspen of same size closer to shore untouched. Dam just above here (which probably is same one I examined on S side) is in excellent repair & signs of much recent work. Mainly asp, some willow. 9" aspen 20' from the shore here shows work of last night or before with bark all peeled and wood still clean wet. Just a few preliminary cuts into wood itself on uphill side. Ground
