Concord Contra Costa Co., 400 ft. California
January
Dave Hefner, Ken Raney, and I returned to
Indian midden site. We sifted and dug all
day - but weren't too successful. We found the
dentary (only half) of a cricetid (probably
Reithrodontomy's), part of a human dentary with
very worn molars and 4 beads. The beads
actual size
were remarkably well made: [image] (made of
bone)
We, again, picked up many bone fragments for later
identification. 1700 returned home.
January
Mt. Diablo, 2 mi. SE Clayton, Contra Costa Co., California
Dave Hefner, Barry Lotz and I departed
Richmond 0700 heading for Mt. Diablo. 0830
parked car and began hike. 0930 reached Eagle
Peak - Stratoscumulus overcast - ~45°F; light
breeze. 1000 noted Prairie Falcon perched on
tree on East slope of Eagle Peak - could see
droppings on rocks nearby (presumed to be Falcon's
nest) but could not get within view of nest -
due to ruggedness of country.
1230 arrived Summit of Mt. Diablo. Very Cold - rather
hard climb - views not too good. Hard lunch and
coffee at snack bar.
1330 - crossed down through saddle and arrived
on North Peak 1415. Rested for awhile, then
began descent on west face of North Peak.
