4 July (cont)
1 km N Sigueros 50m., Sinaloa, México.
I saw several large jack-rabbits (lepus) and
2 roadrunners (Geococix sp?). We worked the
traps all day and decided we should
karyotype the live gopher John caught
yesterday, so we drove into Mazatlán and
checked into the Hotel California. 1300 finished
karyotyping and preparing animals. Ate
dinner on the main-drag (Playa) and 2430
retired. Nice evening.
5 July
1 km N Sigueros 50m., Sinaloa, México.
0615 arose and drove back to the trap site.
We had left the traps overnight - caught
2 Thomomys ... John's was damaged by ants.
We worked the traps all morning and
captured 2 more gophers, 1 live. 1200
pulled traps. The heat was extreme. I
doubt that we could work much longer
today. We had 12 specimens from this
locality and we couldn't find any
more active systems. We headed back
into Mazatlán to karyotype the live
gopher. 1400 checked into Hotel Mazatlán
and the north Playa. Slept from 1430
to 1630. 1700 ate dinner. Later, we
karytyped and prepared specimens.
