Thousand feet above the rather low, hot valleys. 1600 quite disappointed, we decided to depart the area and return north to bolster our sample at Bella Union. 1830 arrived at the Bella Union locality and reset 16 sets in the fields both north and south of the Hury. We captured 2 more Thomomys before dark (1 alive). 2000 left traps in the ground and drove into Saltillo - I was feeling quite poor (upset stomach), so we thought something to eat would help... It didn't. 2200 checked into Motel La Fuerte east of Saltillo ($440 pesos)... Showered and retired. 2 July 1 km N Bella Union, Coahuila, Mexico. 0630 JCH arose and drove to check traps. I was still feeling ill, so I stayed behind. 0845 JCH returned with 2 more gophers making a grand total of 19 specimens from this locality. We spent the morning karyotyping. 1300 checked-out and drove a few km to the town square in Arteaga where we stuffed the gophers (using a park bench as a table). 1430 departed Arteaga, had a cool drink in Saltillo, then drove back to Monterrey via Hury 40.
