to warrant our staying, so ~1000 we pulled traps and headed north on Hwy 68. We stopped at a point several kilometers north of La Ascension in a mixed pine-Yucca forest and set out a total of 25 sets in a [illegible] region of intense gopher activity.
1200 we captured 4 Pappogeomys, so we pulled traps and headed north (we are only interested in Thomomys). It then occurred to us that the gopher holes in this entire valley were very large, indicative of Pappo's. We had, for some reason, thought that Pappo's didn't range into these mountains.

We drove north to Galeana and searched in vain for signs of Thomomys - all we could find were obvious Pappogeomys signs. There were no higher valleys that we could reach in this vehicle - and, in fact, probably few higher valleys existed since the mountains were almost [illegible] naked rock outcroppings that jutted up several
