Mazatlán (Aeromexico). 1300 departed Monterrey and drove via Hwy 40 to Saltillo, Coahuila.
The mountains along the way were quite spectacular - razor-back ridges jutting quite high in the air. The vegetation consisted mainly of mesquite, yucca, and cholla. We outskirted Saltillo and headed east on Hwy 57 to the vicinity of Bella Unión. After looking (for about 2 hrs.) for gophers, we finally found a population dense enough to warrant trapping (we hoped for 15-20 specimens). We set out a total of 15 sets as per the following map.
