Journal Hafner, M.S. 1978 September 5 mi. W Halleck, Elko Co. Nevada. 0700 arose. Very cool night. Checked traps. Results: Onychomys leucogaster (kept) It appears that Micros are no longer in this area. (Hall caught them here years ago). We pulled traps then drove east on Hwy 80 to Wells where we ate a nice breakfast. We continued south on Hwy. 93. The Red Ruby Mtns. were covered with considerable snowfall, which made beautiful scenery to the west. 1300 arrived East Ely where we bought supplies, then headed SE on Hwy 93 through the Scheel Creek Range. The weather was considerably better as we went further south. We took a turnoff a few miles south of "Major's Place" that headed East toward the Snake Range and Shoshone. We stopped in the remains of the town of Shoshone and looked around for interesting objects. We found pieces of old, small-scale ore cart track and small spikes. The area had a large accumulation of fine, wind-blown sand - it appeared that
