7.5 mi. N, 1 mi. E Santa Rosa, Guadalupe Co., New Mexico
dam on the Rio Pecos. At a point about
7.7 mi. N of Hwy 40 we turned west
toward the Rio Pecos. About 1.6 miles
of windy road brought us to the river.
The road dead-ended at an Archaeological (12)
site being worked by a large team of
men and women from the National
Center for Anthropological Studies in
Albuquerque. We stopped in a group of
Cottonwoods on the edge of the river,
and I set out 7 sets along the sandy
banks. The river was shallow, narrow
and muddy at this point. The day was
extremely hot and the gophers were not
active. We waited around until about
1900 at which point I had only 2 set-
offs. I left the traps overnight. We
drove back to the motel-strip along the Hwy
and checked-in. Relaxing evening.

captured 1 animal.
