(south of Nuevo Italia). It was an extremely
hot day — the live Orthogeomys fared fine,
howerver. We continued N from Nuevo Italia
and climbed back onto the SW Edge of the
Mexican Plateau. The elevation (now 6,000-7,000
ft) made for much cooler climate. 1730 we
drove via Pátzcuaro Uruapan to Pátzcuaro.
Along the way we noted an extreme
abundance of gopher activity; Our best guess
were Pappogeomys and, possibly, Thomomys.
We passed through Pátzcuaro at 1730 noting
the beautiful and comparatively clean town.
We continued south from Pátzcuaro and
drove over the pass to Tacámbaro.

and Tacámbaro. We decided to trap tonight
S. of Tacámbaro for Lionmys pictus and spend
tomorrow morning searching for Zygogeomys.
We reached Tacámbaro just after dark and
spent around 1/2 hour just getting through
town. We finally found the road towards
Pedernales (to the S of Tacámbaro) and
