Journal Hafuer, M.S. 1978 Vicinity Arteaga, Michoacán, México. 24 March (cont) set-off at the fresh hole ca. 12 km. NE Arteaga. (All of the sets used pedal traps). We re-set the traps and drove through a nearby village and up a narrow dirt road, where we pulled-off and 2100 slept. Warm, calm evening. Vicinity Arteaga, Michoacán, México. 25 March 0630 arose and drove to check traps. (JCH lost his favorite pocket knife - we looked all around and did not find it.). Again, we had no captures. The same gopher set-off 2 pedal traps without being caught. We pulled all of the traps and headed SW for la Mira and Playa Azul. We figured that the Orthogeomys would be more numerous there. Although the drive was only about 45 miles, it seemed to take about 2 hours to reach la Mira. The habitat all the way was dry thorn-scrub desert. We saw no signs of Orthogeomys anywhere along the route. We turned S from la Mira and drove across the dam that marks the Michoacán-Guerrero border. We then
