Journal Hafner, M.S. 1978 24 March (cont) Of the burrow entrance at ground level, We think that Zygogeomys mounds are quite distinctive in terms of the other genera we have observed. It appears that Zygo's rarely - if ever use the mound as a central locus for surface foraging - the mounds appear to be simply dirt pushed up from beneath, much as lava from a volcano- thus, the mounds are rather volcano shaped. Zygogeomys no "plug" area of plug v25cm 6-8 cm "typical Gopher" mound. 0830 packed up and headed through Apo back to the main road. Turned south and drove over a rather poor road to Buenavista Tumatlan. We dropped in elevation along the way from about 4000 ft. to maybe 2500 feet. The habitat changed from mixed evergreen, conifer, oaks to desert scrubs - cardelobsa cacti and mesquite trees. We noted many
