Journal Hafner, M.S. 1977 5 August (cont). 5.5 km. S, 13 km. E Amecameca, 3680 m., México, México. Ixtapaluca where we turned S on Hwy 115 towards Chalco. We continued S on Hwy 115 and stopped for supplies in the town of Amecameca. About 2 km. S of Amecameca we turned SE on the paved road to Volcan Popocatepetl. We climbed through the forested slopes of Volcan Popocatepetl to an elevation of 3680 m. (almost at timberline). At the intersection at Paseo de Cortez (25 km. (by road) from Amecameca) we turned S on the road toward Volcan Popocatepetl. The other direction led toward a microwave station and Mt. Iztacihuatl to the north. We drove 1.1 mi.
