En Route: Uruapan to Nahuatzen, Michoacan, Mexico.
31 July (cont)
We drove through the beautiful forested mountains north of Uruapan through the town of Paracho de Verduzco ( billed to the the "Guitar capital of the world" -- we saws dozens and dozens of guitar shops ). We then turned SE out of the small village of CherĂ¡n toward Nahuatzen. The town is located in a scenic valley between volcanic ridges. Much of the valley floor is in corn. We stopped at a point: 1 km. N
2 km. W Nahuatzen, 2220m., Michoacan, Mexico.
We each put out 6 gopher sets in the loamy soil adjacent to the roadway and in the nearby plowed fields. The holes were quite obviously those of Pappogeomys and in sight of 1 hour JCT had a live Pappogeomys. We pulled traps disappointedly (as we as yet have not obtained a Zygogeomys sample) and headed south again on July 37.
Total: 1 Pappogeomys taylorkinnes
