seemed to remain in a neat layer beneath the water. (I found two old pots in the forest and brought them with me.)
0800 we returned to Pátzcuaro, had breakfast, then checked into a very nice motel (220 pesos = $10.00 us) on the main road into town. We immediately injected the animals to be karyotyped (0930), set the skins atop the van to dry, showered, then set to work.
We worked throughout the day preparing specimens. I noted that the specimens of Pappogeomys, especially the two sub-adults had incisors with faint, but noticable secondary, medial sulci... Pappogeomys are said to be unisulcate. The Thomomys, or many of them anyway, had faint medial grooves, also.
1900 departed motel to [illegible] find a place to eat dinner. Eventually found a very nice restaurant overlooking the upper town plaza.
2130 Retired, quite tired.
