Journal Hafner, M.S. 1977 28 July En Route: Morelia to Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, México. tend to forget the high elevation of the Mexican Plateau. We drove west on Hwy 15 to the town of El Correo where we took the turn-off toward Lagunillas. Via a sometimes bumpy, other times smooth road we soon arrived in Pátzcuaro. 0800 had breakfast and went over trapping plans for the next few days. Our main goal is to get a sample of I. humbrinus from the area of the type locality for the pulpus race (Hell and Villa). We will also attempt to get a small sample of Pappogeomys gymnuurus and hopefully Lionmys. Pátzcuaro is a beautiful city (small) located on a gentle hillside overlooking the large Lago de Pátzcuaro. Apparently, fishing is a large industry in the area with Pescado Blanco being featured at every restaurant. The town is centered around 2 large Plazas very close to each other -- the buildings are of the old Mexican-Spanish architecture with huge wooden beams and thick rock walls. We found the town to be especially pleasant due to general sanitation and a complete absence of trucks, crowds of people, etc. in the city center. 0900 we drove on Hwy 120 South of Pátzcuaro in search of the quppler
