Journal Hauner, U.S. 1977 En Route: Guanajuato, Qto. to Morelia, Mich., Mexico. 27 July (cont) in this area would seem quite suitable for Thomomys, though we saw no signs. We continued south on Hwy 45, through Irapuato to Salamanca. We then turned S on Hwy 43 to Valle de Santiago, where we stopped to look at local merchandise. We continued south past the Laguna de Yuriria and entered Michoacán. It began to rain as we crossed the bridge (land bridge) over Lago Cuitzeo - a very large lake. We noted fishing nets and dug-out boats on the lake shores. 1900 entered Morelia after picking up fresh water several miles north of town. We eat a nice dinner adjacent to the main Plaza and later looked at local merchandise. We each bought small statues of Indian- like figures. (125 pesos = $5.50 US). 2030 we walked around town for awhile then drove a few miles west of town on Hwy 15 to camp alongside the highway. Very comfortable, slightly cool evening. Almost full moon, clear, light breeze. En Route: Morelia to Patzcuaro, Michoacán, México. 28 July 0530 awoke, very wet from dew. We were both quite cold throughout the night. We
