Journal Hafner, M.S. 1977 En Route: Zacatecas to Moyahua, Zacatecas, México 24 July (cont) noticed that we began to see sombreros (of the wide brim type) worn commonly by the local people only since we approached Zacatecas City. North of Zacatecas city, everyone wore standard "[illegible]" cowboy" hats. We departed our rest stop at 1600 hrs and drove south on Hwy 54. The countryside was extremely beautiful with large Mosquite trees, Opuntia cactus and grass. Mountain ranges were to both the east and west of us making a very [Blew a tire just north of Tabasco] scenic journey. We stopped in Tabasco (a small puebla) where we looked through a few shops. We each bought a rustic water vase of "Terra Cota" with a cup thrown in for 25 pesos (= $1.15 US) each. 1800 The sky was clouding over and a large storm was approaching from the east, so we decided to rest for awhile and ate dinner in Jalpa. The rain began to fall heavily as we drove into town. We had a very nice bisteck meal for 18 pesos (80¢ US) each. 1900 drove several miles south of Jalpa on Hwy 54 and pulled over to sleep. Heavy rains falling so we slept in the van. Warm, humid weather. Continuous, light to moderate rainfall.
