certain areas of high density - such as where
we collected. Three of the 25 specimens were
alive so we checked into a motel in Zacatecas
(140 pesos = $7.00 us) and karytyped (one of
the specimens died in transit).
2000 ate a very nice dinner (best yet) in the
restaurant (associated)
connected with the motel. 2130 we
showered and retired.

0620
Zacatecas, Zacatecas, México.
0620 arose after a very nice nights sleep. We
wrote-out skin labels (we had yet to prepare
the 25 specimens from yesterday's catch). At
0800 we had a very nice breakfast in the
same restaurant. We returned to our room
and prepared the specimens 0900-1200.
1300 packed-up and drove north to the
turnoff to Guadalajara (just north of Zacatecas).
We turned S on Hwy 54 and drove to Villanueva.
We bought some supplies in Villanueva (and 2 sombreros)
and drove to a shady spot just south of town
where we stopped to dry skins in the sun. The
sombreros were worn by the local people and
not
were souvenirs. Each cost 140 pesos (= $6.50 us)
and one was of Palm and the other of Trigo
(= wheat). They were especially well made. We've
