Journal Hauser, M.S. 1977 En Route: La Paz, BCS, to Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. 17 July (cont) measured our vehicle and we passed under the 5 m. length limit. (would have cost 100 pesos more had we been over 5 m.) As it was, the ferry cost 600 pesos for the vehicle and 100 pesos for each of us. (800 pesos = $35 us.) We were told to return at 1400 to begin lining-up for the 1700 departure. 1200 we drove into town, bought more supplies for the voyage, had a nice lunch, then returned to the ferry. Of course, we waited for hours for anything to happen at the ferry docks. Although all the Mexicans were "oficial" in some way or another, nobody knew what was happening. 1600 we finally loaded the vehicle on the ferry. The ship was about 400 ft. long and probably 20-25,000 Tons (DWT). Twin screw with a bulbous bow. Very nice... built in germany, 1975. The vehicles were in a large hold below all of the passenger accomodations - we were told by one official that we could go below to our vehicle any time we desired during the voyage. As it turned-out, a man selling cigarettes and chewing gum gave us the correct story -- we couldn't go below during the voyage. -- so we rushed below
