En Route: Las Cuevas to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
14 July (cont)
1400 we continued south on Baja I. We were now entering "short tree forest" habitat. Tulip trees, flecho, Rathbunia, Clolla spp., Cardon, Acacia, etc.
We got supplies in the town of San Juan del Cabo then drove along the coast to San Lucas, The Ocean and beaches were quite beautiful.
1600 we headed N'ly on the dirt road toward Todos Santos. At a point 7.4 mi. S (by road) from the village of Migiño I collected a Horned-lizard (MSH 887). We noted numerous vultures and sparrow hawks along the ±20 mi. stretch from San Lucas to Migiño.
1730 drove through Migiño (2-3 houses away from the road) to a point a few miles north of The village and walked along the beach to cool-off - The swells were very strong and the beach quite steep - we didn't swim. We skinned the gophers we had captured this morning then drove to a point 4 mi. (by road) SE of Migiño to set of Sherman traps.
This was given as the Type locality of Perognathus dolgesti so we decided to put all traps in this general area.
