Journal Hafner, M.S. 1977. 2 km. N. las Pocitas, 110 m., Baja California Sur, México. 13 July (cont) success: 24/100. We released all but the pocket mice and Dipodomys peninsulae and prepared specimens, saving 2 of each taxon for karyotyping. 1100 departed this locality and drove via Hwy 1 south to La Paz. We passed through the narrowest point of Baja (about 25 miles wide) and could see both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf from the Hwy. 1230 arrived La Paz. Drove to a large bank near the Governor's Palace and changed money. We then obtained directions to the tourist office. After a few hours of shuffling from one office to another we obtained our car permit for entrance into the Mexican mainland. We drove out to the Ferry docks about 17 km N. of town to find out that tickets were no longer being sold except for the day of departure. We drove back into town - an extremely hot day, where we looked up a tourist agency and got our reservations for the ferry trip to Mazatlan on this Sunday, 17 July. The cost was approximately $40. The woman at the agency could speak very good english - she invited us to use her office phone to call home (collect) after 5:30
