Ocotillo, Rathbunia, larrea, Bursura, and many candlebra cacti (Pachycerius ?). There are occasional dense stands of Rathbunia, but many open areas.
1900 we set out 200 sherman traps, 50 in each direction of the compass from camp. 2000 Drove into Penjamo (which is merely a single house on the north side of the Hury) and had dinner at the only restaurant (the same house). It was getting dark, and since they had no electricity, they lit a kerozene lamp for us to eat by. We had beftec, frijoles y torillas, and of course, cervezas. The old man was quite talkative, but knew no english - we did fine anyway with my spanish and he told us of his days (1951-3) in lodi, California as a farm laboror. He complained of the lack of freedom of movement in California for Mexicanos.
2130 returned to camp and retired. Warm, breezy night, clear.
