12 July
0600 arose, and set to kantotyping. I was a bit sick during the night - nothing much, probably resulted from the hot sun and lack of food yesterday. We kanyotyped 1 Perognathus sp., 1 Ammospermophilus, and 2 o gophers. We were pleasantly surprised to have 2 live o' gophers for kantotyping. We weren't so pleased to see that the animals from yesterday were beginning to rot. We immediately set to skinning and checked out of the motel by 1400. We stopped at the local bank to change money, but the banks apparently close at 1300! We then bought some cokes and juices and drove about 5 miles S of town on Hwy 1. We stopped in the shade of a pt palm tree and pinned-out our specimens. It is a very windy day. 1630 noted a Caracara swooping low near the highway about 10 mi. S of Santa Rita.
1700 Arrived Las Pocitas and drove to a point 1.2 mi. N (by road) Las Pocitas, where we turn NE'ly on an old dirt road.
