9 July
(cont)
an hour of intense sweating in the dirty,
sandy wash, we found ourselves even deeper
in the sand. (It was, of course, dark making
things more complex). We finally let air
out of the rear (tubeless) tires and used an
old gunny-sack beneath the tires for
added traction and escaped. Of course, the
tubeless tires (one of them) went flat
immediately causing us to have to change the
tire.
2130 finally arrived in town (after washing
at the motel) for dinner. We entered a
nice, scenic old restaurant just as it was
closing- but we managed to sit awhile and
have a cerveza while an old man played
old Mexican tunes on a piano; very enjoyable.
We reluctantly left this place and had a
very nice meal at a nearby restaurant.
2400 - after a shower, we retired - very tired.
