En Route: Punta Prieta to El Rosario, Baja California Méxio.
8 July (cont)
0730 departed this locality and headed S on Hwy I for El Rosario. We drove 4.85 mi.
S. (on Hwy I) of El Rosario then took the dirt road marked "Playa Altanira" which headed off to the west. We drove 2.8 mi. to the ocean edge. We noted many gopher signs in a salt-marsh (dry at this time) just to the south of the road. The dominant vegetation was of saline affinity including Salicornia and even Cholla. The soil was sandy near the beach and rather clay-like about 50 m inland (at this point the desert Yucca-Cholla scrub vegetation took over.
