Journal Haemer, U.S. 1977 En Route: Colonia Guerrero to Punta Prieta, Baja California, Mexico. July 7 (cont.) amazingly like an upside-down growing carrot. [tiny branches with small green leaves.] | 3 to 20' tall | We later encountered numerous Elephant trees (Bursera) as we entered the rockier country about 60 miles SE of El Rosario. The Hury is in rather fine condition - always very narrow and numerous pot-holes.) By the way, the elephant trees are named for their rather large tree bases resembling elephant feet. 15oo entered Punta Prieta - nothing much of a town. Drove South on Hwy 1 to a point 6.6 mi (by road) S. Punta Prieta (just before the road begins to climb through a hilly area) - where we turned west on a dirt road. We drove to Rancho Bachandré's where we got directions to the town of San Andrés - which, as far as we could later determine, doesn't exist. Anyways, we continued S and W on the dirt roads until we reached a sandy river wash fairly dense with Mesquite trees. We,
