Journal Hofner, M.S. 1977 6.0 km. S, 17.0 km. E Valle de la Trinidad, 910 m., Baja California, México. 5 July (unit) 1000- we headed NW on the main road (good, paved road) from Valle de la Trinidad toward Ensenada. We had hoped to take the road to San Vicente but were advised that the road was only for 4-wheel vehicles. Reluctantly we drove the long way around, through Ensenada. Ensenada was much as I remembered it from 1970: Dirty, wind- blown town. We fueled up, bought some juices then headed south from Ensenada on Hwy 1. A pleasant, cool trip down the coast, passing through numerous small, run-down villages. 1600 arrived in the town of Colonia Guerrero very near the type locality of Dipodomys gravisipes. We scouted around [illegible] until we finally found the ruins of Mission Santo Domingo about 6 miles from town. We decided upon localities that we wanted to trap - either tonight [illegible] or tomorrow night. Then headed back into town and checked in at the "Hotel Sanchez". We got a very nice room - twin beds, showers, etc for 200 pesos ($9.00) !!! We karyotyped 10 specimens and took tissue and blood from a total
